The Beecassos
Ask someone to define what a quilt is and likely they will pull to mind an image of a bed covering made of many pieces of fabric, perhaps even scraps of old clothes, stitched together to form a geometric pattern. It may conjure up memories of women of generations past gathered together around a quilt frame, stitching away and chatting about their lives. But ask a member of The Beecassos and you will get a vastly different answer. To these women, quilting is an art form with endless possibilities.
The Beecassos is a local group of art quilters who meet once a month to share their love of non-traditional quilts. It is a quilt bee formed by members of the Forsyth Quilters and Piecers Guild (www.forsythquilters.org). Beecassos member Nancy Lassiter commented, "I visited several guilds over about two years, looking for people interested in non-traditional quilting. When I saw 'Beecassos' listed on the Forsyth Piecers and Quilters web site, I knew instantly that was for me. With a background in studio art, graphic design, and a long interest in sewing, I'm primarily interested in design. I search for interesting clothing details and rework them into new art. Several in the group have similar interests, and it's always exciting to see what we come up with."
