Turned Wood
My interest in woodworking started about 6 years ago when my father-in-law showed me a reproduction of a classic table that he had made. It was from a kit where you glued pieces together, sanded, finished and assembled. I got a simple table to start with and then I bought several more complicated pieces. It took quite a while to do the projects.

I took a pen making and general woodturning class. I loved the idea that I could do woodturning projects in hours and not days or weeks. I was hooked!

Artist's Statement
I love working with wood and many of my pieces are functional and decorative. You never know what is hidden in a piece until you start turning it. Many times you find bugs or bug tracks.

I have had a career in retail and direct marketing and for 25 years I have run my own advertising and marketing consulting agency, Holtje Communication Group. I moved here from Northern VA 3 years ago and am semi-retired.

I took turning classes at Woodcraft, Adult Education and Arromont. I joined the Capital Area Woodturners. CAW offered skills improvement sessions, demonstrations and workshops from local, regional and world-class turners. I became Vice President of the club. I have attended two national American Association of Woodturners symposiums. I am now Treasurer of the Piedmont Triad Woodturners. My work is in several galleries and shops. I love to sell my work!
