Pine Needle Baskets
Jim McCreery learned his basket art from Judy Mallow a fifth generation basket maker at the prestigious John C. Campbell Folk School in Brasstown, NC. All of Jim’s baskets are made from natural materials, the Long Leaf Pine Needles and walnut slices come from North Carolina trees.
The other embellishments come from various sources but are mostly natural like the Job’s Tears, which he grows in his garden. Most of Jim’s baskets are one-of-a-kind, he starts with a base and then the spirit takes over to create a beautiful basket.

Artist's Statement
"I like to use nature's bounty to create something useful and beautiful to look at. All of the needles in my baskets come from Southern Long Leaf Pines and are gathered in my yard and other areas of Winston-Salem. The walnut slices are from trees in my yard. I try to use only natural embellishments in my baskets with the exception of the scroll sawed bases which depict nature. After the needles dry they are shellacked and last for up to one hundred years with proper care."
