Watermedia
I started out as writer and artist and morphed into artist and writer, with the one passion influencing and infusing the other. I look at life metaphorically, an approach as relevant to my painting as it has been to my writing. Often a painting and its title will each have something to contribute to, reflect upon, or say about the other. For me, art is discovery rather than exposition. I am an intuitive, associative, abstract, sometimes nonobjective artist whose subject matter and approach are primarily symbolic, deriving from my deeply internal nature as well as from my many diverse interests. I love sensuous lines and intense color, both of which figure prominently in my paintings.

Artist's Statement
For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by eyes and a linear archetypal face, both of which have expanded and evolved over time in such a way that they almost always play some part in the evolution of my paintings, though their presence or influence may not be obvious.

Other recurring symbols include suns, spirals, flames, deep interior spaces, organic curvilinear forms, and what may be thought of as "energy lines" or perhaps lines of "flow" or of life. Themes variously relate to expanding knowledge or understanding, growth in many forms, light, life, continuity, inspiration, imagination, and the central core of life in all things.

What I hope for my work is that it appeals to people subconsciously as well as consciously, figuratively as well as literally, verbally as well as visually.
