In his art, McFarlin mixes and matches humor, fantasy, avante garde and surrealism with an ample dose of whimsy using inventive titles that turn the typical interpretations of our contemporary world on its ear...
“I was born to be an artist and find great pleasure in interpreting and recording observations of my inner and outer world in my work”
If J. Baxter McFarlin were a canvas, the centerpiece would be a dove sketched in charcoal soaring amidst an egg tempura backdrop of exploding magnetic color with animals gathered at the periphery of a glistening lake of crushed lapis lazuli.
With his mane of waist length locks, McFarlin looks more like a lion than a dove, though he incorporates the attributes of the bird of peace in his life as a pacifist and in works that explore both animal and human expression. “I am loving, and easily forgiving,” he offers. “I aspire for spiritual awareness and maintain hope for world peace.”
