Randleman High School was the site for the Spring, 2008 National Art Honor Society Raku Workshop. Over 40 high school students from Charlotte, Winston Salem, Fayetteville and Randleman convened in Randolph County for a day of demonstrations and lectures and the opportunity to fire their pottery in a Raku kiln built just for this event.
The day started with a slide lecture by potter and RHS teacher, Bob Armfield, about the history of Seagrove pottery. This was followed by a glaze mixing demonstration. Students were then able to watch and participate in firing pottery that they had made earlier. After lunch, tours and demonstrations were scheduled at the NC Pottery Center, Turn and Burn Pottery and Lucks Ware Pottery.

In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the NAHS program specifically for high school students grades 10-12, for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS also strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of their highest potential in art areas, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community. This year's NC state co-sponsors are Rebecca Stone-Danahy of Forsyth Country Day School and Melissa Walker of Randleman High School.
On Sunday, students visited the NC Zoo to take advantage of sketching and photography opportunities as well as see the large variety of sculpture installed at the Zoo.
