Story by Megan Vasiles
In examining his print work alone, his amazing range as an artist can clearly be seen, in both subject and perspective. Sets such as the Vista series collectively communicate varying points of view that examine the same general theme, which Toth accomplishes with a fresh and clear view of his subjects with each undertaking. Each brings a slightly different perspective, and while every piece is capable of standing on its own without external accessories or explanations, in viewing them all together each feels like a smaller piece of a puzzle that can only be fully comprehended as a series. He also accomplishes a setting as familiar and recognizable as historic Salisbury, NC with as much vision and care as the fantastic imaginary landscapes of his New Age set. His landscapes often carry a soft or dreamlike aura, which contrasts beautifully with his portraits and still life, which tend to be sharper, and thus more grounded in a conventional understanding of reality. When one examines even a small portion of his art, it is obvious that he has the ability to narrow artistic focus to emphasize the smallest details, making each significant and meaningful; while also delivering a broad and encompassing perspective of the subject in context within other pieces. As an artist, Toth is clearly not limited by subject or method, and is capable of realizing a wide variety of objects in a clear yet thought-provoking way.....
From impressionistic landscapes to awe-inspiring sculptures, Robert Toth undoubtedly has the power to create engaging and emotional works of art. A quick glance through the Realm of Art section of his personal website, www.roberttoth.com, shows immediately a list of impressive credentials as diverse as the art he creates, with commissions ranging from NBC TV to MGM Studies in Hollywood, California, to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City.
It's undoubted that Toth exhibits an unusual diversity throughout his projects, represented both in his ability to move between forms of art such as painting and sculpture, but also in the way he competently utilizes vastly different styles even within a single art form.
